Sharon, our beloved dorm Mom, soccer Mom, and actual Mom, is sick - she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in late 2016. Over the last months, she has undergone a number of different treatment protocols. After completing her most recent protocol, although her doctor initially thought she was in remission, her cancer came back aggressively and in different forms. Due to her weakened condition from the recent treatment protocols, she is not able to re-engage the desired conventional protocols available in Taiwan for 3 to 6 months. However, because of the speed with which the cancer is moving, she can't wait for her body to recover to take action. This blog is setup to keep you up to date on how Sharon is doing.

11/11

Last night we enjoyed sharing the story of how we got together with the nighttime nurse.  It was an experience complete with all the pieces: laughter, frowns at Terry’s conduct, smiles at Gods provision as well as applicable advice to applied as she pleases.  Sharon is sleeping in short intervals but is getting some rest.

As I write Sharon is getting more blood.  Mark was sharing some research about how much more A- blood there is in this part of the world as opposed to “over there”.  The answers to the question “why are we here?” continue to build

Two doctors have come by with varying information regarding Sharon’s situation.  The roller coaster continues.  We’ll focus on the report of Dr. Sacks who says that her breathing seems good and is approving a test for two hours with the respirator turned down to see if they can take the tube out of Sharon this morning.  What a blessing it would be to be able to have her speak with the boys today.

Along with that we’ve enjoyed:
* one attendants amazing smile and her follow ups good coaching prowess.,
* giving fashion advice to another older attendant who is being encouraged by her peers to get some highlights in her hair….it’s just a matter of what color. I think Sharon’s input settled the matter *enjoying the lovely view of the ocean out the window.

There are more items for that list but I’m going to post this now because they’ve decided to “extubatne” Sharon and have her breath on her own.  There are challenges to this but Dr Sacks and the attendant are both confidant that is the right call.  We are going with the experts.  She is going to have to get up out of bed and work a bit a breathing.  Prayer for strength in her body and a continuation of her stellar performance thus far would be good right now and over the next couple hours.  The guys currently doing this are awesome.

As I keep saying God is good all the time...

  1. So far so good....they gave her a solid "B" for performance once the tube was out. We'll take that for now. She's glad to be with her sons right now.....

  3. I really appreciate the updates Terry. The little details you share about Sharon as she fights this aggressive cancer shows so much how incredible person she is. I lay pastor at a small country church in Canada and we have been praying. May the Lord give each of you His measure of strength in the days ahead.

  6. Sharon's "tube was removed two hours ago. She is currently working with two physical therapists whose job is to have her get out of bed and sit in an chair. Their first question to her/us was, "where are you going when you leave here." We responded with some surprise, "Taiwan". She is currently sitting and the therapist said, "you are like a superstar. I wish all my patients were like you.". I am without other words right now.

    1. You have a gift with words Terry and we appreciate the multitude of details you include in your brief updates. You are on the battlefield with your family now and on the front - you have an army of thousands of prayer warriors at your back and the Mightiest Warrior leading the way. There has been ceaseless prayer for Sharon here in Taiwan and other parts of the world. Your family is dear to so many who have been impacted by the infectious joy you all possess, your love for God, and your willingness to serve. I pray for strength for all of you today - for rest, peace, joy, laughter, happiness, and more "Wow" God moments! I was just envisioning you and Sharon sitting in your lounge chairs on our front lawn this past summer watching a movie, holding hands, laughing, and having a Coke. Sweet times! I thought of you repeatedly during the Jr. Carnival and our adventures with the lights just a year ago - even in our frustration and exhaustion of the moment God taught us something about persistence - it was a small thing, but I was glad to be working with you and getting to know you better. Love you brother! Dan Basnett

  13. It is encouraging to hear how God is still answering our requests and providing for you. What a blessing and answer to prayer that Sharon is improved so she can share with you all together. We were reminded in the dorm fellowship this morning how our awesome God answers specific prayers. Terry's doing a great job helping us to know the details. We will keep praying without doubt and trusting God's will to be accomplished in and through each of your lives. We look forward to seeing you home soon. Love, Penny & Steve
